upgraded to 8.2 from 8.0 and now won't create sitemap & overwrote my root index

I had installed the 8.0 version and ran it with no hitches. I noticed it said there was a newer version, 8.2. I replaced the older version with 8.2 and it won't go past main url, plus it overwrote my root index file. WTH?? Any ideas?
