does a new crawl replace the current/old sitemaps

did a crawl earlier today and ended up with 72k urls, and did not have sitemap1.xml and sitemap2.xml setup....so now need to recrawl...and the question is when you do a new crawl does it replace the old data? thanks,

Hello,
yes, old data will be replaced with the new crawl.
Normally in case if sitemap files were not written on previous crawl, there will be an option to "resume" crawling, allowing to create sitemaps without re-crawling the site.
