cron job on linux spews out html

I just installed the standlone version last night and when running the cron job ..in my case...

/usr/bin/php /home/sites/www.mysite.com/web/sitemap/runcrawl.php

no files are generated - just a bunch of code is displayed.

how do I correct this?
