hebrew chars in pages url
« on: August 30, 2009, 08:24:25 PM »
Hi.
I tried to create a sitemap for my website, but discovered that once the generator gets to a page with Hebrew chars in the url, it stops with an error or saves the url with Gibrish.
Example url:

Please let me know if I can fix this somehow.
Cheers.

Hello,

all links in xml sitemap must be "urlencoded" so this link should be stored as:
Code: [Select]
http://www.domain.com/home.yecms/%D7%9C%D7%A7%D7%95%D7%97%D7%95%D7%AA

Hi.

First of all, thank you for the rapid and informative reply.

the thing is that in the spoken website, all our links work with the Hebrew names by default and not url-encoded. Isn't there a way to have the sitemap mechanism convert these chars automatically into the appropriate format needed for the xml file, as you've mentioned?

It is recommended to format links directly on the site to avoid issues with crawling the site by search engines, you can check links on Wikipedia website as an example (check html source of the page): [ External links are visible to logged in users only ]
