google reports sitemap files excede max file size

G - not indexing sites due to reporting the following  - " pasted from webmaster tools"

Sitemap file size error
Your Sitemap exceeds the maximum file size limit. Please create multiple Sitemaps containing fewer URLs to meet the file size limit. Help 

I have 10 monster sites
Once the program is complete each of the 4+ site files is around 11.5 mb

One site was sucessfull and the file came in at 10.5mb - that worked.

However on the others I am rerunning the program with the compression enabled to try and get the size down
Any ideas?

Hello,

please try to decrease this setting manually in config.inc.php file to 30,000:
'xs_smsize' => 30000,

and regenerate sitemap.
